Aspen trees with a message

Message trees hanging at Our Luthern Church

I painted a series of aspen trees. I called it “The Message Trees.”

This series was inspired by the cattle drives that passed from New Mexico to Colorado about 20 miles from here. In the early 1900, the cattlemen and sheepherders stopped and added messages to the trees. They were telling everyone or someone important to them, they had been there.

That’s how art comes about. One idea evoked 10 paintings of different colors of aspens. I painted them in yellow, purple and turquoise. These are hanging in my daughter’s office at Our Savior Luthern Church.

I need to paint more. All those paintings are hanging in other people’s homes or offices. People love aspen trees.
